The LIDA Project

September 11–28, 2014

Dusty Loo Bon Vivant Theater

It was shocking, momentous and then largely forgotten. Two dozen people were killed, including 2 women and 11 children. The Ludlow Massacre of 1914 was the most violent episode in the Colorado coal wars, which in turn was part of the deadliest strike in the history of the United States. On the hundredth anniversary of the massacre, The LIDA Project to created a new play about the miners and their strike that THEATREWORKS is presenting.

Murray Ross says, “It’s a project that speaks directly to our mission to educate and to ground ourselves in our own territory. The issues Ludlow raised—inequality of wealth, exploitation of natural resources, the divisions between labor and capital, are all just as relevant today. And, of course, it’s one hell of a story.”

Brian Freeland and Denver’s The LIDA Project to create the new production. “LIDA has a long history of making fascinating new work,” Ross said, “and we thought they would be the ideal creators of this new adventure.” The result promises to be a whirlwind of theatrical invention, as history, tragedy, vaudeville, and modern technology converge in the theater’s flexible space.
