It’s spring so that means awards season. VAPA not only has a number of program-specific awards, but also some new department-wide awards that were created to help students with travel, supplies, or any other needs to help them succeed in their chosen disciplines. Congratulations to all of the VAPA Outstanding Student award winners:
Nikki Valdez in Art History; Erynn Mitchell in Film Studies; Ana Legg in Museum Studies and Gallery Practice; Baylee Parks in Music; Jess Carmona in Theatre & Dance; and Deborah Schoen in Visual Art. Louis Cicotello believed that artists provide the creative foundation for the cultural vitality of a community. The Louis M. Cicotello Award in the Visual Arts has been established in his name to recognize the accomplishments of a VAPA student graduating with a concentration in visual art during Academic Year 2019/2020. This year’s awardees are Ashley Andersen and Martha
Wheeler. The Visual Art program also offers the Jeniel Harris Visual Art Scholarship each spring. Awards are granted based on artistic merit and financial need to any VAPA Visual Art major. This year’s award goes to Jaden Brown. The Excellence in Theater and Dance Arts Endowed Scholarship supports students who have declared Theatre & Dance as their major at UCCS. This year’s winners are Seth Lindsey and Shantel Horne.
Sophia Rossi and Jem Brock are this year’s winners of the inaugural Visual and Performing Arts Department Scholarship, which provides scholarship support to continuing students. And finally, the Reddy Arts Experience Scholarship was created to support travel that enables students to complete creative projects, research, art-specific workshops, and internships. This year’s awardee, dance major Delaney Ciborowski, will be using this funding to help her attend a workshop in the AXIS Dance Company’s Teacher Training Intensive.
