Little Shop of Horrors
A young man's foliage fondness lands him a unique and peculiar plant. When unexpected fame and admiration is thrust upon him, Seymour Krelborn finds himself engulfed in a plot of pernicious prosperity. But, his permissive greed empowers an injurious interloper to sow seeds of supremacy.
Theatreworks is thrilled to have Randy Chalmers playing the iconic Seymour Krelborn! Being a Colorado Springs Native, Randy graduated from Mitchell High School and went on to study at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He gained quick recognition in the Colorado theatre community when he was celebrated in the 2017 True West Awards for his third appearance on Colorado stages as Seaweed J. Stubbs in Hairspray.
We are certain that his new recurring role will originate with us in Little Shop of Horrors.
Theatreworks: Hometown? Colorado Springs
TW: Home now?
Randy: Littleton, CO
TW: What got you into theatre?
Randy: I was always a choir kid, so musical theater was something that just intersected when I was in high school. Later, I was living in Greeley and my roommate’s dad was opening a theater in Conifer. The first production was Hairspray and he was looking for a Seaweed. I ended up being cast, met a couple of actors that suggested I audition in Denver, and here we are!
TW: What's your biggest obsession outside of theatre?
Randy: Starting Sunday, it’ll be the final season of Game of Thrones.
TW: What makes Seymour relatable to you?
Randy: It doesn’t take a lot to make Seymour happy. A bed under the shop counter and being fed meatloaf and water isn’t really cutting it for me, but overall I just want to make my living doing what I enjoy and spend my life with someone I love.
TW: What Netflix show would Seymour be binging, right now?
Randy: Some sort or nature documentary. Life or Planet Earth maybe...
TW: You're a Colorado Springs local. What is your favorite spot in town?
Randy: To be honest, I’m generally just in town to visit my family, so my mom’s house is the only place that I really frequent in town. I’d be down to hit Skate City at some point. It’s been forever haha!
TW: If they made a movie of your life, what would be the title, the tagline and which actor would you want to play you?
Randy: Title - Being Cool, Living in Excellence, Same Ol’ Same Ol’
Tagline - obnoxious vocal riff
Actor - Can I cast myself? I’ve heard that I’m available
