Five-time Grammy winner Dianne Reeves is the preeminent jazz vocalist in the world today. Her effortless style draws upon a world of influences; as a result of her improvisational gifts and unique R&B and jazz stylings, this Detroit-born, Denver-raised singer was awarded the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for three consecutive recordings—a Grammy first in any vocal category.
Calling Reeves a jazz master is far from an exaggeration- after all, the National Endowment for the Arts gave designated her a Jazz Master this year, the highest honor the US bestows on jazz artists. This title is well-deserved: she has recorded with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orhestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She was a featured soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic and has performed at the White House on numerous occasions, including President Obama’s State Dinner for the President of China, as well as the Governor’s Ball.
When Reeves’ holiday collection Christmas Time is Here was released, Ben Ratliff of The New York Times raved, “Ms. Reeves, a jazz singer of frequently astonishing skill, takes the assignment seriously; this is one of the best jazz Christmas CD's I've heard.”
On December 7th, UCCS Presents brings Reeves to the Shockley-Zalabak Theater as part of the Artist Series' first full season. Her dynamic range and captivating style will delight audiences as she performs selections from Christmas Time Is Here. It’s sure to be a holiday treat- get your tickets here.
