Dear GOCA friends,
I am writing to say hello and wishing the best for you and your families. While UCCS, the Ent Center for the Arts, and both GOCA spaces are temporarily closed through mid-May, both the professional staff and student interns and employees are hard at work (remotely). We are dreaming up ways and sketching out plans to stay connected with our communities, to support our arts community, and to lift each other up in this incredibly tough historic moment.
I am a firm believer that art can bring us together in meaningful ways. It can help us understand ourselves and each other and what’s happening around us. Most vitally right now, it can elevate and support our collective human spirit.
We also know that the artists, musicians, performers and other creatives we work with very much need our support right now. Since that is a big part of our mission at GOCA, we have come up with a few ways to connect and support, and I hope you’ll take part as you wish to do so.
I invite you to follow GOCA on Facebook @galleryuccs and Instagram @gocacolospgs where we plan to share about our current and recent exhibition photos and videos and as well as the following virtual programming that you can participate in from your personal space, starting the 1st week in April:
Wellness Wednesdays @ noon – 1 pm – yoga with Debby Patz @ Facebook live
Lunch Beat Noontime Dance Parties – every Friday with rotating guest DJs @ Insta Live
Artist studio visits with Colorado artists – Tuesday & Thursday evenings @ Insta Live
Live performances with local musicians, poets, and more, streamed on @Insta live – dates/times TBA
GOCA raises funds to support our exhibitions and programs. We plan to provide funding for the artists, musicians, and poets and other creatives giving their time for studio visits in the coming weeks, so if that’s something you want to get behind your contributions are very welcomed for this specific purpose at this time. GIVE HERE.
I share the words of Vincent Van Gogh as inspiration in this uncertain time, who said, “The more I think about it, the more I realize there is nothing more artistic than to love others.”
I wish you all health and peace in this challenging time, and I look forward to the time when we can once again gather in person in the galleries soon.
